One recipe for getting Famous

Here’s the coolest thing I’ve seen today.

Famous Mortimer is making himself famous.

He’s a fan of our HeyMonkeyBrain project. But rather than just being a fan or contributor or follower, he’s turned the tables and has become a leader, the guy in charge.

Because he’s found something he likes interacting with, and is owning it. He’s put himself at the center of a conversation. He’s making his own bestseller lists. He gets that there’s a real business in hand cataloging and annotating the best stuff on the web. And he’s not doing it halfway; he’s not just aggregating and mashing up and calling it a day. Instead, his tactic is to find debates that make him think, then insert opinion supported by hysterical and thoughtful rants, and wind up creating something entirely original.

And because of that, guess what: he’s starting to get a following.

No, it’s not new. Reviewers and tastemakers and thoughtleaders have been around for ages. But it’s worth it to ask yourself: What are you a fan of? Why not be a leader, instead?

And then in short order the question will become: Who’s a fan of yours?

Quick! What's Squidoo?

Squidoo is the popular publishing platform and community that makes it easy for you to create "lenses" online. Lenses are pages, kind of like flyers or signposts or overview articles, that gather everything you know about your topic of interest – and snap it all into focus. It's a supersimple, fun and powerful way to share your interests, build your online identity and credibility, and connect with new readers and friends. It's all free, and you could even earn a royalty for charity or yourself!
