Ah, grammar. Spelling. Syntax. The things that make the world go 'round.
In 2004 Lynne Truss unleashed a craze for grammar goofs and punctuation punctiliousness (uh oh, is that a word?) in her bestseller EATS, SHOOTS AND LEAVES.
Now copyeditor, editor, writer and all-around smarty Michelle Hauser is sharing her own pet peeves about misuse of the English language. I'm not convinced Michelle isn't actually my first grade teacher, but I'll let her off the hook for now.
Check out her lens Easy English (squidoo.com/easyenglish) and brush up on it's vs. its, their vs. they're vs. there, and others. Michelle also points out some good jobs in the field, favorite word books and resources, and leaves us with the inarguably good advice:
"When in doubt, look it up." Oh, and "the thesaurus is not a prehistoric reptile, but an invaluable writing tool."
If you have a grammar conundrum, maybe Michelle can help. (She charges $1 for every whom vs. who decision. Okay, not really. But she should!)
